Domestic violence is on the increase mainly due to the fast spreading alcoholism and drug addiction. Consequently, the women have been tortured physically and psychologically. Normal education of children is weakened. Youngsters go out of hand of their parents. They are unemployed and they too become victims of addiction and other social taboos. To build a sustainable infrastructure where victims of drug abuse aregiven an opportunity and a chance to rehabilitate and reintegrate to society as model citizens.
The path of recovery is never exactly the same for two persons. Process of recovery is slow and takes much time. The approach is quite personal and altruistic. Person to person relationship is established and renewed intensely. It is positively motivated. Today more than ever before, students and youngsters are increasingly becoming prey to substance use. Being tuned to think positively, the affected persons must become aware that they are agents of their healing, concentrating on personal healing.
Moreover, prevention programs have been initiated in order to keep away children and adolescents in vicious circle of substance use. In this regard, we had 5 days Training Program for social workers from 23rd Feb. 2022 to 28rd 2022 by Change Charitable Trust in collaboration with Jaffna District Secretariat and National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Thodarpaham. Another 5 days Training Program for social workers was held from 23rd March. 2022 to 28rd March 2022 by Change Charitable Trust in collaboration with Divisional Secretariat, Point Pedro at the said Secretariat. Also one day program was held for preschool teachers at the Point Pedro Zonal Educational Hall on 4th April. . In all the 3 programs, 65 persons participated in each with much enthusiasm.
